Natural Migraine Relief – Better than Drugs
In an attempt to avoid unexpected side effects of medication, an increasing number of people are looking to natural remedies for relief from migraine. Here are three natural therapies to control migraine headaches: aromatherapy, chiropractic adujustments and biofeedback.
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is a popular and well established alternative treatment for migraine headaches. In fact it has been used for thousands of years to bring relief from many ailments. The most common oils which are used to treat migraine attacks are essential oils such as Chamomile, Rosemary, Peppermint and Lavender. Essential oils are relatively inexpensive and they can easily be bought from the local health store.
There are many different ways to use essential oils in the treatment of migraine. Using lavender, for instance, one method is to place two drops of lavender on each temple and then lie down or relax in an armchair for about twenty minutes. This is frequently all it takes to get rid of the headache. You can also sprinkle five drops of lavender onto a face cloth which has been soaked in hot or cold water and place the cloth on the forehead or neck.
An alternative to using a facecloth is to put the oil into a diffuser and breathe in the bouquets as they are released. Some relief should be found after fifteen to twenty minutes. Being surrounded by these lovely aromas can be particularly relaxing. One final way to use aromatherapy is to inhale the oils directly. This might not be suitable for sufferers from asthma or other respiratory problems.
Before trying any of these natural alternatives you need to seek further advice on how much oil to use and for the length of time that you use them. Prudence is needed even when using something as seemingly harmless as aromatic oils.
Chiropractic Manipulation
An increasingly popular natural treatment for the relief of migraine is chiropractic adjustments, or chiropractic manipulations. Chiropractors give treatment for conditions which are caused made worse by misaligned spinal bones and migraines brought on by tension in the neck and back muscles are an example of this type of problem. To gain natural relief from headaches and migraine, people have been turning to their chiropractor for over 100 years, and with very good results. Research has shown that over 80% of people gain relief from their headaches after suitable chiropractic treatment. in addition, chiropractic treatment has been proven to be entirely safe.
Biofeedback
The use of biofeedback methods are a natural and effective way to moderate and, perhaps, eliminate migraine completely. Put simply, biofeedback is essentially a training plan which will enable someone to have some measure of control over his/her autonomic, (involuntary), nervous system. This means that body processes that are normally automatic can be controlled, at least in part, at will. This technique allows someone to have some element of control over his/her heart rate, blood pressure, skin temperature and how relaxed they are.
As is well known, stress is a major factor in causing tension, leading in turn to muscle tension, particularly in the neck and muscles of the upper back, which can cause a migraine attack. If someone is able to use biofeedback techniques to relax, at any time and no matter where they are, it is possible to bring down the severity of a migraine attack or eliminate a migraine very quickly.
What To Do Now
You have read above about three natural methods to bring about relief from migraine. They are tried and tested alternatives to prescribed or over the counter medicines which may have unpleasant side effects, especially when taken for long periods. However, everyone reacts differently to treatments and you will have to try them out to see which ones are best for you. As always, if you unsure about using any of these alternative solutions for migraine, you should consult a medically qualified person. This is good advice to take before thinking of treating yourself for any health condition.
