When my mother was in the late stages of alzheimers disease she often slept and had her eyes closed. She was stimulated by the combination of singing, music, rubbing her arms, holding the vibrating pillow and objects to grasp. The changes in my voice’s tone (and of course familiarity)was alerting. Note that at this point I asked questions to stimulate but she no longer comprehended what “yes” and “no ” meant. My mom also enjoyed frequent arm and shoulder rubs and being spoken too at close range.
My mother is shown in the late stages of alzheimer’s disease. Her eyes were usually closed, but she became alert when we sang and played music. She holds a vibrating pillow and stuffed animalsto grasp.
